Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Summer is HERE!  Just because it is summer doesn't mean your child should stop learning.  There are many GREAT learning opportunities for families to share together to help your child prepare for the new school year in August.  Here are some fun learning activities that I guarantee your child will love:

*Watch a garden GROW!  Set up a small area for your child to plant some healthy vegetables and let the learning begin.  Your child can build research skills, keep a scientific journal, and make a living scrapbook from seed to harvest in their garden.

*Read about your WORLD!  Maybe long road trips are not in your summer budget, so bring the world to your child.  Here are a few wonderful resources where students can experience big adventures:
*Newsela builds nonfiction literacy and awareness of world events by providing access to                         hundreds of fresh new articles based on your child's grade level
*Time for Kids online provides work experiences that your child will enjoy!
*National Geographic for Kids can be found at the local libraries for parents to check out.  The                photographs are worth a million words to help children see unique places around the world.

*Keep active!  The Owen County YMCA offers many children activities such as dance, swimming, and even fun summer camps.  Visit the Y today and your child will be ready to get active!

*Check out the Putnam Co. or Owen Co. Libraries for summer reading incentive programs.  The more your child read over the summer, the more they will improve their academic achievements next fall.

Most importantly this summer, just SPEND TIME WITH YOUR CHILD!  Take time to talk to your child and let them know you CARE!  An evening star gazing or a simple bike ride on a warm afternoon will create the BEST family memories.

The entire CES staff is looking forward to seeing your child on August 6th for the first day of school!

Safe and Happy Summer Adventures,
Mrs. Elkins, Principal
